Flexible Gas Pipe

A flexible gas pipe (known as a gas supply hose) is used to join the shutoff valve on the end of the rigid steel gas supply line to the gas appliance. The hose has a nut on each end that screws to the thread on the end/side of the shutoff valve and the male inlet on the gas appliance.

Gas Wall Heater

Gas wall heaters are placed within close proximity of the gas line's shutoff valve, with its position contingent upon the length of the gas supply hose -- hoses come in different lengths. The hose nut connects to the inlet which is is generally found on the bottom of the heater. If the heater has a female inlet, a nipple with two male threaded ends is installed into the inlet, with the hose nut then attached to the remaining end of the nipple.

Gas Stove

Gas stoves generally have inlets that connect to the supply hose on its back side, near the top. As the stove has to be pulled out of position to install the hose to the inlet, it is best to purchase a gas hose at least 6 feet long to run between the shutoff valve and stove inlet, while the stove is out of position.

Gas Water Heater

The gas heater dial is located near the bottom of the heater and at the front. Once the hose is attached, the heater dial is set to pilot and lit by placing a barbecue lighter through the opening below/near the dial.

Gas Barbecue

As in the case with gas stoves, a longer gas hose is required to connect from the gas shutoff valve to the barbecue, to ensure that the barbecue unit can be freely moved around while still attached to the gas supply. However, while the gas flames are lit, the barbecue must be left stationary for safety reasons.
